Bio Statement:

Mary-Ann Mufute (she/her) is a Boston College alumni and aspiring social worker. She works as a Teaching Assistant, educating students ages 3 to 22 who face complex challenges and have unique learning needs.

She got introduced to MFC through another board member Julia DeVoy as a research assistant at Boston College. She worked closely with Sarah Bibbey, and soon Matilda Lartey, our partner at the MFI Foundation. She got excited about what Matilda was doing in Ghana, working with and employing persons with disabilities. As someone who works with this population at Boston College, she wanted to expand her knowledge and activism. She believes everyone no matter their circumstance or ability should be given opportunities not just to live but to flourish in whatever passions they find themselves exploring.

Her hope is for MFI as it is becoming more financially sustainable to eventually allow its work and impact go beyond the borders and hopefully partner with other African nations in the same pursuits of social justice. Mary-Ann grew up in Zimbabwe which faces similar struggles against denim dumping and low employment rates. She hopes that this will be an exciting collaboration that will bring MFI work to the next level.

Mary-Ann has always wondered what running an organization would be like, and working with Matilda has given her the opportunity to not only learn but to be part of something bigger than herself. She sees the vision and is excited to see where it leads her.

Areas of Focus at MFC:

Mary-Ann is the Partnerships Director for MFC where she works closely with Matilda Lartey and the team at The Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation (MFI Foundation) to assist with coordination of the upcycling partnership. She also works to support the growth of The MFI Foundation, with a focus on increasing equity within the partnership and achieving the collective vision of the partnership which is for The MFI Foundation to become a global producer of upcycled goods.
